About

This website (or weblog) is maintained by Ramūnas Janavičius, a clinical geneticist (MD), who is specializing in human cancer genetics (both clinical and molecular aspects). Currently I work in Lithuania, Vilnius, Hematology and Oncology Center. Here is the list of my publications in PubMed.

Here I present my personalised approach to human cancer genetics – all the information which is interesting/important for me in this field, I am happy to share with readers. All are invited to discuss, participate, comment and subscribe to RSS feed.

I used to collect interesting links in bookmarks on my Firefox browser or at Connotea social bookmarking site, but the practice showed, that blogging and sharing your knowledge is the best practice to stay aside and be updated on your interest topic, learn new information, discover new resources and interact with other people having similar interests.

Moreover, as Boulos et al. states in his article:

The latest generation of collaborative Web 2.0-based tools, namely wikis, blogs and podcasts, offer many unique and powerful information sharing and collaboration features and have been increasingly adopted by many online health-related professional and educational services. Because of their ease of use and rapidity of deployment, they offer the opportunity for powerful information sharing and ease of collaboration.

Human cancer genetics is a new and very fascinating discipline. I think it is still not appropriately addressed in everyday clinical practice. To improve human health, scientific discoveries must be translated into practical applications as well as to the public domain. I hope that this blog, dedicated to cancer genetics and set up in a grassroots fashion, will be a small contribution towards fostering this exciting field mainstream (or at least be an useful collection of information resources).

There are following sections on this site:

The information provided by this site is intented for all who are dealing with cancer genetics in practice or interested in this rapidly evolving field.

My dream is to write a book on human cancer genetics someday (firstly in lithuanian language) and empower people to use their own genetic information properly to prevent cancer diseases.

Inspirational quotes:

“All cancer is genetic, but some cancers are more genetic than others” (paraphrased from Animal Farm, by George Orwell)

“50% of what we teach is wrong, but we don’t know which 50%” (author unknown)

“Why do we know so little if we have so much information” (Noam Chomsky)

Hey just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The text in
your post seem to be running off the screen in Internet explorer.
I’m not sure if this is a format issue or something to do with browser compatibility but I thought
I’d post to let you know. The design and style look great though!
Hope you get the issue fixed soon. Many thanks
